Cobbs Tests Positive for Marijuana

Friday January 11 12:44 PM ET

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Arkansas running back Cedric Cobbs has tested positive for marijuana, according to a report Friday from the state Crime Laboratory.
Cobbs was arrested late Tuesday on drug and traffic charges after he was stopped for speeding on Interstate 30 in Little Rock.

He pleaded innocent to possession of marijuana Wednesday morning and his next court appearance on that charge is Feb. 20. He also was charged under the drug section of the state's driving while intoxicated law and will answer to the traffic charges when he is arraigned Jan. 28 in traffic court. The traffic charges include speeding, having no proof of insurance and not using his seat belt.

Arkansas coach Houston Nutt has suspended Cobbs indefinitely.
The MVP of the Cotton Bowl two years ago, Cobbs was traveling 73 mph in a 60 mph zone when he was stopped about 11:40 p.m. near downtown Little Rock.
Trooper Marshall Cooney said that when he stopped Cobbs, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the driver's window. Cobbs told him he had smoked a marijuana cigarette, Cooney said.

On Another Sports Note...

What is it with Darrell Russell?
Since he has tested positive for drugs, he's been a force.
Sources close to the Raiders say that Russell's recent substance abuse problems have really woken him up. After slipping into obscurity through two straight years of average football, the former first-round selection has been giving great effort and maximizing his potential in the wake of his most recent positive drug test. Many in Oakland feel that Russell, who is said to be a great kid, has reassessed his situation and career since his recent slip-up.
