New Jersey Man gets
jail in try to cheat on drug test
NEWTON: A Lafayette man has been sentenced to a year in jail
for attempting to cheat on a drug test, the Sussex County
Prosecutor's Office said yesterday.
Brett Cimmons, 21, was on probation when he tried to rig a
random test on Oct. 22 by bringing in a bottle of clean urine
as a substitute for his own, authorities said.
He pleaded guilty March 31 to a fourth-degree charge of
unlawful possession of a device intended to defraud the
administration of a drug test.
Cimmons also pleaded guilty to violating probation on July 30,
2001, in Vernon, when he repeatedly kicked an acquaintance's
car and caused more than $1,000 damage, authorities said.
He was angry when the victim informed another person about
Cimmons having been stopped by police and ticketed,
authorities said. He was originally placed on probation after
being convicted of fourth-degree criminal damage to property,
prosecutors said.
Cimmons also was sentenced Friday in Superior Court in Newton
to pay fines of $955 and to forfeit his driver's license for
six months.
